This message is being sent on behalf of the Georgia PTA Youth Service Chair, Sophronia Qualls:

Greetings all! Georgia PTA is pleased to announce that we will be offering scholarships to eligible 2017 graduating seniors of a Georgia high school with a PTA/PTSA. However, we really need your help to spread the word to all seniors. We are requesting that all local units, Councils and District PTA leaders, as well as Departments of Communication for school districts, assist us in getting this information into the hands of the seniors counselors and principals in your respective schools. Please go to www.georgiapta.org to download the application. All applications that were on the website earlier will be considered.

We were thrilled to award many scholarships to deserving students last year and look forward to providing just as much support to the class of 2017! Congratulations to each of you!

"Be fearless in the pursuit of what sets your soul on fire."

Serving Georgia’s Youth,

Sophronia Qualls

Practice with a Purpose SAT/ACT

Practice with a Purpose

Kaplan has just launched a program called Practice with a Purpose. We’ve partnered with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, and we’re aiming for a goal of 100 scholarships donated, which is a value of up to $125,000.

By visiting our free online practice resource hub, students can take a free pop quiz, 20-minute workout, and a full proctored practice test to help prepare for upcoming SAT or ACT exams. Students can sign up and take all three if they’d like, and

for each test or quiz a student signs up for, we’re donating a Kaplan Test Prep scholarship to a student in need.

Global Citizenship Program for Teens

s.gif

S.gif
I am Jamilah Rashid, the founding director of My World, a leadership and global citizenship program for teens, 8th-11th grade. January through May of each year our program works to build self-awareness, communication, critical thinking, cultural competency and collaboration skills while offering community service and low-cost travel experiences. We accomplish this through workshops, local field trips, a spring break trip to Washington DC and an international trip over Thanksgiving break.

We are about to start recruiting for our 2017 Cohort of Student Ambassadors and would like to share this opportunity with Druid Hills High School Students. Ngun Chin and Michelle Ogutu were previous participants from Druid Hills. We have a limited number of spaces available and have previously had participants from Tucker, Decatur, Stone Mountain, Columbia, WD Mohammed and Clarkston High Schools.

In addition to preparing students for life in the 21st Century, one of our goals is to provide access and exposure to possibilities outside of their neighborhood. Our local experience is free, the DC trip is only $100 and we offer scholarships that cover 50% of the international trip.

To learn more about our program please visit our website and social media pages. If you would like to refer students who have leadership potential and could benefit from the type of exposure to new ideas our program provides, please share our attached brochure with them and encourage them to apply.

Feel free to contact me for more information or to schedule a presentation. I look forward to hearing from you.
